Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program

This program provides rent subsidies for very low income individuals and famiilies who locate their own housing in private homes and apartment buildings. Program participants must meet income eligibility requirements, and typically pay approximately 30% of their adjusted gross income towards their rent and utility costs. Note: The waiting list for this program is approximately one to one and half years. To apply for a Housing Choice Voucher, or to speak with a program representative, contact one of our ACCESS Centers listed below. ACCORD also offers the following programs under the Housing Choice Voucher Program:

  • Family Unification Program This program is designed to keep children at risk of being placed in foster care in the home. Families in this position are allowed to bypass the waiting list and receive immediate rental assistance. Families could be eligible for this program if they are in danger of losing their child or children due to substandard living conditions, or if a family needs to find safe housing away from a domestic violence situation. Note: A referral from the Department of Social Services is required.

  • Family Self Sufficiency Program This program enables low-income families to become economically self-sufficient by providing services that will enable the family to support themselves without government assistance. Families will set short- and long-term goals for themselves in order to attain self-sufficiency. A Family Self Sufficiency Escrow account will be established for the family who's household income includes earned income that increases over a period of time. Increases in earned income will result in an increase to the family's responsibility of the rent, a portion of which will be credited to the escrow account in accordance with HUD requirements.

  • Homeownership Program This program assists Housing Choice Voucher program participants to purchase a home by offering continued assistance with mortgage payments or a lump sum payment to assist with the costs associated with purchasing a home such as a down payment, closing costs, etc. Family Self Sufficiency program participants will be given top priority for the Homeownership Program.
